MP Zane DeSilva's daughter Zarah had no idea who Collie Buddz was when the couple first met.

They hooked up by chance about a year ago when the reggae star was at home in Bermuda on a break from touring.

The couple - who have just got engaged - bumped into each other a couple of times through friends and liked the look of one another.

Zarah eventually realized 'that guy' was an international reggae artist and Collie's brother spread the word that Zarah was "that politician's daughter."

It was only when Collie and Zarah met in a bar that they really got to know one another.

They spent the following day out on a friend's boat and Zarah, 25, said: "We talked and talked and talked.

"He said 'I've got to go to Europe' and I said: 'I'm coming with you.' That was it!"

Zarah insists she doesn't see Collie Buddz as a world-renowned musician and one of the biggest music stars to come out of the island.

To her he will always be Colin Harper who has a "huge heart" and would do anything for anyone. She says Collie has remained down-to-earth, despite signing a five-album deal with Sony Urban that hurled him into a jet-set lifestyle.

The couple enjoy nothing better than hanging out together at their Southampton home, which they share with their two dogs Coby and Zeus.

They also like fishing, watching movies, hosting barbecues and cooking. Zarah says that Collie "cooks all the time."

The couple also share a love of tennis - Zarah is a former Bermuda Fed Cup player and Collie's mom Debbie was a tennis pro at Fairmont Southampton.

But with Zarah "beating him pretty bad" they have agreed that he should stick to his music while she sticks to tennis!

They are both close to their families and have a close group of friends who they spend their time with.

Zarah said: "He's just a normal person to us all, he's not Collie Buddz in our eyes, that's just his work. He's the sweetest guy you'll ever meet in your life. You can't say a bad word about him.

"He's very kind and generous and has a huge heart. He puts others before himself and he's extremely humble."

Even though the couple are now engaged, Zarah understands it will be business as usual for them.

They are used to being in different countries but try to sneak a few days together whenever they can.

In the last year Zarah has been to California and Trinidad to visit Collie and spent a month touring Europe with him. Zarah says when they're not together they are texting, e-mailing and talking 24/7: "It's great that we're both doing our own thing, it's not a problem at all. He's busy working and I'm busy working and we try to hook up when we can."

She added: "He's going to be really, really busy throughout the summer, but we'll manage. He'll pop home when he can and I'll try to meet him whenever I can."

Collie, who is best known for hits such as Come Around and Tomorrow's Another Day, has performed across the world and everywhere he goes he is in demand for TV, radio and newspaper interviews.

He has just been nominated for Top International Artist of the Year from the Fourth Annual Excellence in Music and Entertainment Awards alongside artists such as Shaggy, Sean Paul, and Buju Banton.

Zarah says she "loves his music" but admits she isn't biased as she tells him exactly what songs she likes and doesn't like.

She said: "I'm so proud of him, it doesn't matter what he goes on to do, he's already a success in my eyes."

Zarah isn't even phased by female fans throwing themselves at her husband-to-be when he's on stage. "It doesn't bother me, that's just his occupation, that's the way it is. I trust him completely. People who know him know what he's like."

Zarah said she would never have dreamed that she'd be engaged to a reggae artist but admitted: "It's the best feeling in the world."

The couple will now start planning a "big Bermuda wedding" for May of next year. "I would never have imagined this would happen. But I have found someone I'm so excited to spend my life with.

"It's fantastic, I'm so excited."
