The arrest of Premier Ewart Brown's eldest son for alleged sex crimes is beginning to draw international publicity.

Newspapers and websites from France to Malaysia have reported that Kevin Antario Brown, 37, is alleged to have sexually assaulted eight of his patients, as well as over-prescribed painkillers and taken part in a multi-million dollar healthcare fraud.

Internet bloggers and journalists in the U.S. have even started looking into Premier Brown's family history, them. More charges are likely to follow, Ann Marie Wise, deputy district attorney, sex crimes unit, told the court.

So far, Dr. Brown jnr. - who practised medicine in L.A - has been charged with 19 counts, including rape, molestation of a 15-year-old girl and sexual battery by fraud. Since his arrest, other law enforcement agencies have revealed that they are investigating him for defrauding medical bodies set up to aid the poor. A court affidavit also states that Dr. Brown jnr. is being investigated for over-prescribing an opiate painkiller. He has not been charged in relation to those investigations.

Neither has Dr. Brown jnr. been convicted of any wrongdoing in connection with any of the allegations at this point.

Dr. Brown jnr. is being held on $4 million bail. In court this week, his lawyer, Keith Bowman, argued that the bail should be set lower. However, Ann Marie Wise, deputy district attorney with the sex crimes unit, said that Dr. Brown jnr. was a flight risk because of his links to Bermuda. Ms Wise said: "[Defence] counsel are also incorrect when he alleges that there are no violent sexual acts alleged." She said that one victim had told of "forceful penetration."

During the court appearance, the California Medical Board also filed an application to revoke or suspend Dr. Brown jnr.'s medical licence. That hearing will be heard on August 7, along with Dr. Brown jnr.'s arraignment on the criminal charges.

The story has now been featured by at least 30 news organizations, including The Turkish Press, Carib World News, The Times of India and the Los Angeles Times. One researcher who contacted the Bermuda Sun was attempting to learn more about another of Dr. Brown's sons, Maurice Pitt.

Mr. Pitt was sentenced to 10 years for armed bank robbery in 2002. On a website for a prison pen pal scheme, Mr. Pitt writes: "Being in prison has allowed me to do a lot of soul searching and introspective thinking.

"I was young when I came in (19) and I've changed a lot - for the better...I like women who are intelligent, ambitious and know what they want (and aren't afraid to go for it)."
